A GLANCE

A typical classroom in India scenario is fabricated with multilingual students. Today, in the era of globalization English language has become a lingua franca and taught as second language in Indian educational institutes with a cognitive objective to develop linguistic skills of LSRW viz. listening, speaking, reading and writing of English.

The department of English came into existence with the establishment of Govt Pataleshwar College in Masturi in the year 1988. English in any rural milieu will acquire the position of being a third language in India. General English is Compulsory under foundation courses in undergraduate program (BA, BCOM, and BSC & BCA) of college with minimum passing marks of 26 out of maximum 75 marks. The total number of seats available in BA is 200; BSC is 95, BCA 40 and Commerce 60 in current academic session. One Post of Asst. Professor is sanctioned by the Higher Education Ministry of State, and filled by LT. Neeta Johar since July 2001. English Literature is offered as an elective subject in Arts stream in the college. Very few Students opt for English Literature at undergraduate level. Therefore there is less possibilities for Post graduate program in the subject.
