Nestled in the rural ambience; Govt. Pataleshwar College Masturi (GPC) is a co-educational institution offering undergraduate and post graduate studies in different streams of Art, Science, Commerce and Computers. Masturi is a sub-district headquarter situated at the distance of 18 kms from its district headquarter Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh state. This Institute is oldest in the region and adorned as renowned centre of education with foundation stone led down by the former Education Minister of MP Government Late Shri Bansilal Ghritlahre in the year 1988. Starting with only 07 students, the institute was initially functioning as an Arts College; sharing building with Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School in Masturi where classes were being held during the morning hours. This continued to execute until October 2000. CG state dissevered from MP on 01 November 2000. Accelerating the development, contemporaneous Govt. sanctioned fifteen acres land for the construction of new building for College on Masturi-Kosamdih village route (connected with the feeder road from NH 10). The demography of the region mainly consists of the marginalised class of SC and OBC.
Since its inception in 1988, the institution was affiliated to Guru Ghasidas University Bilaspur, (GGU till 2012). Subsequently, GGU was esteemed as Central University under Central University Act of 2009, and new State University (Bilaspur University, BU) came into existence within three years. Consequently, GPC masturi came under the Jurisdiction of nascent State University. Afterwards, BU was denominated as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya (ABVV). University Grant Commission (UGC) has entrusted the GPC Masturi with section 2F and 12 B on 18 Feb 1998 and 22nd June 1998 respectively.
During 2006-07, former regional MLA and BJP Minister of CG state Dr. Shri Krishna Kumar Bandhi got sanctioned 76.59 lacks for construction of an imposing edifice for the Institution. The building was completed by PWD and inaugurated by honourable former Chief Minister of CG State Dr. Shri Raman Singh on 13 June 2008. After a year, Seminar Hall was raised with Janbhagidari fund and Library building was erected by UGC grant money. With flying time, College made steady progress. Another feather in the cap was added in Session 2008-09, when the undergraduate program in Science and Commerce along with post graduation program in Political Sc., Sociology and Geography were added by the Government aids.
As greatly sought by the students, post graduation program in Hindi Literature was initiated along with Economics in 2013 with self-finance fund scheme of College. Moving with the pace of time of one year Diploma and Post Graduation Diploma in computer application was commenced with same mode. Meanwhile; self-Funding PG programs is successfully running in Commerce, Maths, Zoology and Chemistry subjects. During 2015-16, GPC was credited a recognition for being a research centre in Sociology and Hindi Literature by ABVV. Presently, 04 research scholar in Hindi and 02 in Sociology are registered.
Undoubtedly, the Institute was opened with only 07 students, but it has witnessed gradual progression. During admission, several Students can be seen hovering like bees against the allotted seats of college. Cumulative seat capacity in the Undergraduate classes has reached 480 seats in Arts, 330 seats in Science and 160 seats in Commerce stream. Similarly Post Graduation seats are 200 in Arts, 140 in Science and 40 in Commerce. BCA, DCA and PGDCA bears 40, 60, 80 seats respectively. The Institute upholds fairly good results. Alumni of the college are serving various Government sectors, private sectors and local agencies. Many are pursuing their family business. NCC and NSS have influenced and motivated students to join social welfare programs, NGOs and Indian Armed forces like Army, Navy and Air force.
We are exclusively devoted to meet the needs of our endear students aspiring for higher education and absolutely committed for their holistic growth by imparting Quality education through scholastic Professors. Quality based curriculum will lead to positive and cognitive development in students’ esp. through ardent and spirited sports, treasure books in library and upgraded infrastructure. Outreaching programs and NSS, NCC, YRC Society of College are shaping the personality and sculpting the character of our ‘Lads and Lass’, Studies in Humanities lead them to becoming a responsible citizen serving the honour of the Nation and safeguarding Society. Science Club and Council of Zoology are working to sensitize students about Conservation and promotion of Environment. Career counselling and skill development courses under the umbrella of NUSSD (National University Student’s Skill development) in collaboration with TISS (Tata Institute of Social Science) have successfully benefitted College students in the past two years. We even propose to incorporate Value aided course in the future session with five new courses.
I am hopeful that this Institution as one family comprising of Diligent Administration, Savant Professors, laborious technicians, operose office staff and promising Students will groom themselves under an educational environment full of zest and zeal.
